The European Court of Auditors published a critical report on the European Union's efforts to achieve energy independence from Russia. The auditors warn that the plan is failing.
The main obstacle identified in the report is the lack of networks and interconnections between EU member states. This deficiency prevents the creation of a truly integrated energy market in Europe.
Without these interconnections, EU countries remain vulnerable and dependent on external energy sources, including Russia, which compromises the Union's energy security objectives.
