The Chapel of the Ducal Palace in Vila Viçosa hosts on September 25th, at 9:00 PM, the recital "Choros, Tangos and Sassetti," part of the Concert Season of the Casa de Bragança Foundation. The show will be performed by violinist Daniel Bolito and pianist Philippe Marques, in a proposal that establishes a dialogue between Brazilian music, Argentine tango, and contemporary Portuguese composition.
The program includes works by Ernesto Nazareth, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Astor Piazzolla, Igor Stravinsky, and Bernardo Sassetti. Among the highlighted pieces are "Odeon" by Nazareth, "Choros No. 5" by Villa-Lobos, "Histoire du Tango" by Piazzolla, and "Tango" by Stravinsky. Several compositions by Bernardo Sassetti will also be performed, such as "Homenagem a Heitor Villa-Lobos," "Choradinho," "Cocada Bahianinha," "Sonho dos Outros," "Prelúdio em Sol menor," and "Señor Cáscara."
The musical proposal departs from Brazilian choro and its rhythmic and sonic characteristics, crosses into the universe of Argentine tango, and arrives at the work of Bernardo Sassetti, which reveals influences from the Latin American musical universe. The energetic rhythms and harmonies of tango contrast with the dancing dimension of choro and the evocative sonorities of Sassetti.
The interpretation stands out for the use of percussion effects on violin and piano, improvisation, and auxiliary instruments—resources that explore new sonic possibilities. The recital has an approximate duration of 60 minutes and free entry.
