Nine Portuguese cities walk for peace on September 20th

Jornal 3609 September 2026 at 09:47

The IV Walk for Peace takes place on Sunday, September 20th, in nine Portuguese cities, almost doubling the event's presence in the country. Tavira, Beja, Évora, Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto, Braga, Funchal and Horta will unite in this initiative marked by meditation and a walk in silence, the first time the Azores are included. The meeting point is scheduled for 4:30 PM in mainland Portugal and Madeira, and for 3:30 PM in the Azores.

The previous edition, held on June 28th, took place in only five cities — Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga and Funchal. In less than three months, the initiative expanded to nine locations, adding Tavira, Beja, Évora and Horta.

The organization presents the Walk for Peace as an independent and non-partisan initiative, open to people of different cultures, religions and beliefs. Under the motto "Various cities, one single intention: inner peace and peace in the world", the event begins with approximately 30 minutes of meditation, followed by the walk in silence through the streets of the participating cities.

The movement seeks to be more than a protest, intending to be a public and peaceful demonstration in defense of fraternity, non-violence, compassion and hope. In an international context marked by wars and conflicts, the initiative draws attention to individual responsibility in building peace, asserting that it begins in the conscience and attitudes of each person. Participation is open to all.
