Beja Court Again Convicts Baleizão Killers to 22 Years in Prison for Death of Two Germans

The Beja Judicial Court again convicted the Baleizão killers to 22 years in prison for the death of two German citizens. This is already the third decision on this case, after the Évora Court of Appeal determined the partial nullity of the first ruling and annulled the second.

The case involves natural killers from the Alentejo village of Baleizão, who were tried for the homicide of two German tourists or residents. The 22-year sentence applies to the totality of the crimes committed.

The complexity of the process is due to the fact that the court was required to reassess the factual and legal matters following the decisions of the Évora Court of Appeal. First, the partial nullity of a ruling was declared, and then, the second ruling was totally annulled.

With this third conviction, the Beja first-instance court reaffirms the 22-year prison sentence for the killers, seeking to resolve the issues raised by the higher courts that led to the previous nullities.
