The fishing fleet of Castellón sees a first door opened in Brussels to ease some of the restrictions that have added the most pressure to the sector in recent years. Councilor of Agriculture, Water, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Barrachina, met this Tuesday with the presidents of the provincial federations of fishermen's guilds of the Valencian Community.
Miguel Barrachina transmitted to the fishermen the advances achieved after the meeting held on September 3 with the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costasadis. This meeting with the European official was the starting point for the negotiations that are now beginning to bear fruit.
Among those present at the meeting was Mateo Fresquet, president of the fishermen's guilds of Castellón, who represented the interests of the fishing sector of the province. The encounter allowed establishing a direct communication channel between Spanish and European authorities to address the difficulties faced by the local fishing fleet.
