The preventive policing of the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Force will be expanded to Santa Cruz, in the West Zone, next Sunday. The announcement was made by Mayor Eduardo Cavalete and the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale, on Tuesday morning.
By the end of the year, the city's goal is to have the Municipal Guard present in 22 regions. Santa Cruz will be the 14th area to receive policing since the program began in mid-March.
Like in Bangu and Campo Grande, other areas in the West Zone already covered by the Municipal Guard's Elite Force, the patrol in Santa Cruz will be concentrated in high-traffic areas, such as the promenade and surroundings of large shopping centers, during workers' entry and exit times.
The operation's priority will be combating robberies and thefts, following the same model as the 13 areas already served by the program since March.
