A couple has been formally accused by the Public Prosecutor's Office of 49 crimes of sexual abuse of a minor under 13. The victim is the daughter and stepdaughter of the defendants, meaning the abuse occurred within the family environment itself.
The couple has been in preventive detention since March, when they were arrested by the Judicial Police. The authorities proceeded with the arrest after an investigation revealed the extent of the crimes committed against the minor.
The case occurred in Montemor-o-Novo, in the district of Évora. The formal accusation comes after the conclusion of the inquiry by the Public Prosecutor's Office, which charged the two defendants with a total of 49 crimes of sexual abuse of a minor.
