The El Niño climate phenomenon is worrying the Timorese authorities and the United Nations, which met to discuss the risks associated with this weather event.

The Government of Timor-Leste and UN representatives exchanged views on the necessary prevention measures to address the dangers of El Niño in the country.

The United Nations highlighted prevention as a fundamental element in minimizing the damage that the phenomenon could cause in Timor-Leste.

The officials acknowledged that at this time, it is still not possible to accurately predict the extent of the impacts that El Niño could have on Timor-Leste, which increases the need for preparation.
