IPMA keeps Porto Santo and Madeira coast under yellow warning due to heat

RTP Notícias8 September 2026 at 07:00

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) maintains today a yellow warning for the island of Porto Santo and for the south coast of Madeira due to hot weather. The yellow warning is the third level of a three-level scale of meteorological danger and indicates a risk situation for certain activities dependent on weather conditions. This maintenance of the warning means that authorities consider that the high temperatures continue to represent potentially dangerous conditions. IPMA is the organization responsible for monitoring and communicating meteorological conditions in Portugal, including issuing warnings and alerts to protect the population and allow for appropriate precautions to be taken.
