Correio da Manhã7 September 2026 at 13:35

The Évora Court of Appeal condemned a man to two years and six months in prison, with the sentence suspended, for aggravated domestic violence against his wife. The man, whose identity is not revealed, had initially been acquitted at the Reguengos de Monsaraz Court.

The victim is a 25-year-old woman who was subjected to domestic violence by the defendant. The crime was considered aggravated by the circumstances under which it was committed.

In addition to the suspended prison sentence, the court decided that the man must pay the victim compensation of 5,000 euros as a form of reparation for the damages caused.

The case represents a judicial turnaround, as the man had been acquitted at first instance before the Évora Court of Appeal proceeded with the review of the decision and the conviction.
