Coast guard, drones and even horses: they thought migrants were arriving by boat, but it turned out to be drugs

TVI Notícias7 September 2026 at 13:51

The GNR spent Sunday carrying out searches in Meco, in Sesimbra, after a fisherman alerted authorities to the presence of a dinghy from which dozens of people had disembarked. The situation initially made people think it would be a migrant landing.

The authorities feared it could be another case of migrants arriving by boat. However, after investigations, the GNR military concluded that it was most likely a drug trafficking case.

The operations involved the coast guard, drones and even GNR horses, in an effort to locate and identify the people who had disembarked from the dinghy in the Meco area.
