A 31-year-old man was arrested by the PSP in Barreiro on suspicion of scamming at least six elderly people through a scheme in which he pretended to know the victims to gain their trust. The suspect mainly approached elderly people who were walking alone, mainly near supermarket car parks, and later took them to ATMs.
The man, who had previous criminal records for similar crimes and had already served two prison sentences, is believed to have operated for about three months, between June and August this year. One of the first known cases occurred on June 12, although the specific details of that incident are not mentioned in the article.
