Twenty years ago, in September 2006, a fire broke out in a clearing near the prefabricated houses of the Bemposta neighborhood, in Água de Pena, Madeira, after midnight on September 6th. Several fire brigades fought the flames all night, with residents helping the firefighters to prevent the fire from spreading, which caused displaced people and consumed several hectares of vegetation.
