SAPO Notícias7 September 2026 at 09:23

Hélder Reis, RTP presenter for more than two decades, launched the book "Legends, Myths and Sayings of Portugal", a work that functions as a journey through memory, beliefs and popular expressions that help tell the country. The book explores the boundaries between fact and legend, investigating how these narratives intertwine in Portuguese identity.

In the interview accompanying the launch, Hélder Reis reflects on the meaning of traditional expressions such as "from the time of Maria Cachucha", considering what these words still reveal about the way Portuguese people identify and relate to their collective past.

The presenter currently lives as a farmer and beekeeper in Mirandela, in the district of Bragança. This experience of life in the Trás-os-Montes interior influences his way of observing, living and writing about Portugal, allowing him to maintain a close connection with the traditions and popular culture he addresses in his book.
