Six Algarve municipalities in "maximum" rural fire danger

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) classified six Algarve municipalities with "maximum" rural fire danger for today. The affected municipalities are Monchique, Portimão, Loulé, Silves, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira.

Another six municipalities present "very high" risk, including Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Vila Real de António. Lagoa, Albufeira, Faro and Olhão are at "high" danger.

Rural fire danger is calculated by IPMA based on five levels, using data on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation recorded in the previous 24 hours.

Due to hot weather, IPMA also placed the Algarve under yellow warning until 9 PM today.
