Rural fire danger worsens from Sunday

dnoticias.pt4 September 2026 at 12:32

The meteorological conditions forecast for the coming days may contribute to a worsening of the rural fire danger in Madeira, especially in the high areas and the eastern and western extremes of the island. The alert was issued by the Regional Civil Protection Service, based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere.

The critical period is expected to begin on Sunday, September 6th, extending through at least Wednesday, September 9th. During this interval, meteorological conditions are expected to worsen significantly, creating conditions conducive to the occurrence and spread of fires.

The Regional Civil Protection Service is the body responsible for issuing the alert to the population, while the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere provides the meteorological forecasts that underpin the risk assessment.
