Lula's government says INSS queue is cleared; 224 thousand requests still await response

cbn3 September 2026 at 22:43

The Palácio do Planalto announced on Thursday (3) that the government considers the INSS benefits queue cleared. The new definition takes into account the fact that the number of requests under analysis, of 1.252 million, fell below the about 1.3 million new requests registered in August. Even so, about 224 thousand requests await a response for more than 45 days, the deadline that was previously used as the reference to define the queue.

The peak of the queue occurred in February, when there were 3.128 million pending requests. According to Minister Wolney Queiroz, requests over 45 days fell from 1.8 million that month to just over 200 thousand, classified as more complex cases. Social Security states that the average processing time for benefits is 34 days.

To reduce the backlog, the government cites the hiring of new servers, remote service for examinations, documentary medical expertise, payment of bonuses and blitz events on weekends.
