The government appealed to the individual conscience of citizens to prevent fires, at a time when the country faces high risks of forest fires. The message aims to raise awareness among the population about the importance of responsible behavior regarding fire use and vigilance.
Rui Rocha, the government official, met with firefighters and local authorities in Boticas, in the district of Vila Real. This meeting comes following the fires that affected the region, where approximately 3,000 hectares of land burned.
During the meeting, Rui Rocha warned that nighttime fires and the occurrence of multiple simultaneous fires represent the greatest threat to firefighting efforts. This situation significantly hinders the work of firefighters and civil protection authorities.
The authorities emphasize that prevention is the best strategy against fires, calling on every citizen to take responsibility for protecting forests and preventing situations that could cause fires.
