The FNAEESP denounced the lack of consultation with councils and student bodies in the creation of the new university in Bragança. According to the federation, the process was announced without the representative bodies of students having been heard.
The new university was announced days after the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) had been transformed into a Polytechnic University. The student federation expressed its opposition to what it considered an absence of dialogue with the academic community during the process of creating the institution.
The FNAEESP represents students of public higher education and has been alerting to the need for student participation in decisions affecting the sector. This is not the first time the federation has raised questions about the way new higher education institutions are created in Portugal.
