The Legislative Assembly of the Azores meets on Friday, September 4th, in the city of Horta, on the island of Faial, for a ceremony marking 50 years since its inaugural session. It has been exactly 50 years since the date when the regional parliament of the Azores was formed.

The president of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, will be present at the commemorative ceremony. This is one of the highest figures of the Portuguese State to participate in the event.

The Azorean parliament will thus celebrate half a century of existence since its inaugural session, at a moment that represents a historic milestone for regional autonomy and for democracy in the Azores. The choice of the city of Horta, on Faial, as the location for the ceremony gives particular significance to this celebration.
