PS congratulated the opening of the Eastern Variant to Évora of IP2, arguing that this infrastructure was a commitment made by socialist governments and that it had been "abandoned and completely paralyzed since 2011" due to the austerity policy of the PSD executive. The project cost 54.9 million euros, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, and has 12.8 kilometres of extension with highway profile.
The variant was inaugurated at a ceremony presided over by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Hugo Espírito Santo, and opened to traffic this morning. According to the District Federation of Évora of PS, the infrastructure not only removes heavy traffic from the centre of Évora, but also enhances the economic development and road safety of the entire Alentejo.
PS also highlighted that on Monday three upgraded sections of IP8 opened, between Ferreira do Alentejo and Beja, Santa Margarida do Sado and Ferreira do Alentejo, and Relvas Verdes and Roncão, with a total investment exceeding 109 million euros. The socialist structure claimed that these works result from the strategic planning and contracts launched under socialist auspices between July and October 2024.
PCP, through the Directorate of the Regional Organization of Évora, recalled that IP2 is not complete and demanded the completion of the section between the new variant and the Ramal de S. Manços, whose works stopped in 2011 during the government of Passos Coelho and Portas.
