The PCP's Évora Regional Organization Directorate (DOREV) considered that the opening of the Eastern Variant of Évora does not solve the road connection problems of IP2 in the region, demanding the completion of the section to the São Manços area. The position was conveyed in a statement on September 3rd, coinciding with the inauguration of the new infrastructure by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Hugo Espírito Santo.
The PCP maintains that IP2 is not completed and that the part of the infrastructure that remains unbuilt cannot continue in abandonment. The communists stated that the suspension of works happened in 2011, during the Passos Coelho and Portas government, and that since then there have been no developments. DOREV states that it will continue to demand the completion of this section, considering that the opening of the variant does not eliminate the need to complete the itinerary.
The Eastern Variant of Évora represents an investment of 54.9 million euros, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, and extends for approximately 12.8 kilometers with two traffic lanes and two lanes in each direction. The infrastructure starts from the Eastern Évora Junction of the A6/IP7, immediately after the toll plaza, and connects to the current IP2 in the São Manços area, also integrating the junctions of Vale de Figueiras and Fonte Boa do Degebe.
Despite the demand for the completion of IP2, the PCP expressed a positive assessment of the new road, considering that it will allow diverting part of the traffic from the city of Évora and create better conditions for mobility in the region.
