The environmental association Quercus criticized the Portuguese Government's decision to proceed with the construction of a waste energy recovery plant in the Algarve.
Quercus justified its opposition by the fact that burning waste produces more polluting gases than fossil fuels, considering that this solution is not environmentally sustainable.
Furthermore, the association argued that the incinerator constitutes a solution contrary to the principles of a circular economy, which promotes the reduction, reuse, and recycling of waste to the detriment of its elimination by incineration.
