The plenary of the Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais decided, unanimously, to challenge the candidacy registration of Eduardo Cunha (Republicanos) for federal deputy from Minas Gerais. The trial lasted more than three hours and the magistrates followed the rapporteur's vote, Judge Sálvio Chaves, analyzing two actions that requested the denial of the electoral registration of the former president of the Chamber.
One of the actions was filed by the Electoral Prosecutor's Office of Minas, which pointed to the removal of Cunha's federal deputy mandate in 2016 and, as a consequence, the ineligibility for eight years. According to the body, the impediment would only end in 2027, that is, after the election, as provided by the Clean Record Law.
