The new facilities of the Lagoa Senior Centre were inaugurated on August 31st, in a 40 thousand euro investment by the União das Freguesias de Lagoa e Carvoeiro. The new space, with 172 square metres, has capacity to accommodate between 120 and 150 people and has 60 seated places, providing greater comfort for users and better conditions for the development of social, cultural, recreational, motor skills and cognitive stimulation activities.
In the new space, seniors have access to various activities and services, including handicrafts such as painting, collages, cutting and modelling, as well as music and yoga classes, dancing, massages and health education sessions. The Carvoeiro Senior Centre has also undergone improvements, namely painting and new furniture.
Currently, the Lagoa Senior Centre has 341 registered users and Carvoeiro has 75. Each space is visited daily by approximately 20 to 30 users. During the inauguration, the president of the União das Freguesias de Lagoa e Carvoeiro, José Fernandes, stated that the move results from the need to improve conditions and adapt the space to the growth of the project and its activities. The president of the Lagoa Municipal Council, Luís Encarnação, congratulated the UFLC team for the completion of the investment.
