The Special Court of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) postponed the trial on the merits of Criminal Action 897, which was scheduled for this Wednesday. The session was rescheduled for the 16th, starting at 9am. The action has as defendants three former council members and two suspended council members of the Court of Accounts of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TCE-RJ).
The five accused are Aloysio Neves Guedes, Domingos Inácio Brazão, José Gomes Graciosa, José Maurício Nolasco and Marco Antônio Barbosa de Alencar. All are suspected of being part of a criminal organization aimed at receiving bribes in public contracts.
The process is a follow-up to Operation Quinto do Ouro, launched by the Federal Police in March 2017. The operation investigates corruption schemes at the TCE-RJ.
Of the five defendants, Domingos Brazão lost his council member position after being sentenced to 76 years in prison.
