The Special Court of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) postponed the trial on the merits of Criminal Action 897, which was scheduled for this Wednesday. The session was rescheduled for the 16th, starting at 9am. The action has as defendants three former council members and two suspended council members of the Court of Accounts of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TCE-RJ).

The five accused are Aloysio Neves Guedes, Domingos Inácio Brazão, José Gomes Graciosa, José Maurício Nolasco and Marco Antônio Barbosa de Alencar. All are suspected of being part of a criminal organization aimed at receiving bribes in public contracts.

The process is a follow-up to Operation Quinto do Ouro, launched by the Federal Police in March 2017. The operation investigates corruption schemes at the TCE-RJ.

Of the five defendants, Domingos Brazão lost his council member position after being sentenced to 76 years in prison.

Russia summons German representative in Moscow after Berlin's measures</minimax:tool_call> Russian Foreign Ministry summons German ambassador after Berlin's measures

Russia summoned Germany's charge d'affaires in Moscow, Bernd Finke, in response to Berlin's retaliation measures after holding Moscow responsible for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport in August. Germany closed the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian cultural center, and the EU is preparing new measures. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko ruled out a diplomatic break for now, but warned that diplomacy is a "two-way street." Putin considered the German measures a "big mistake" against the interests of the German people, linking the reaction to Chancellor Friedrich Merz's declining popularity and upcoming electoral campaigns in Germany. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen accused Russia of a "new escalation" on European soil and stated it will not tolerate such attacks.
