The Terras sem Sombra Festival takes place in Vila Nova de Milfontes on September 12, at 9:30 PM, with the concert «The World, This Our Home: Sound Poems», performed by the Mario Nandayapa Quartet. This quartet was founded in 2008 and is made up of musician Mario Nandayapa and his sons, maintaining a family tradition linked to the construction and performance of the marimba for over a century.
The show presents the marimba tradition from Chiapas, in southern Mexico, an instrument that combines melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic functions and is one of the main cultural expressions of the region. The programme crosses traditional Mexican music with works by European composers, such as Bach and Franz von Suppé, and Mexican authors like Silvestre Revueltas.
The concert will take place in the exceptional setting of Forte de São Clemente, near the mouth of the Mira river. This fortress was built between 1599 and 1602 to defend the river entrance and, although it is currently privately owned, it will open its doors to the public for this special occasion.
After Vila Nova de Milfontes, the Terras sem Sombra Festival continues in Monforte, on September 26 and 27, with the performance of the Accademia del Piacere.
