The Algarvian poet Nero is one of the invited authors for the fourth edition of the event "Aqui vai livre," an initiative that brings poetry to the street and challenges writers to freely launch their own books onto Rua Cecílio de Sousa, from the balustrade of the Príncipe Real garden, in Lisbon. The meeting is scheduled for September 19, at 4:00 PM, with free admission. The curatorial work is by poet Elisa Scarpa and author Célia Aldegalega, with the event having gathered over previous editions poets from different parts of the country.
In this fourth edition, Nero joins authors such as Alberto Pereira, Luís Filipe Sarmento, Ozias Filho, Lauren Mendinueta and Ricardo Gil Soeiro, some of whom are returning to the event this year. Nero is from the Algarve and author of the works "Oceano — O Reino das Águas" (2021), "Telúria" (2023) and "Akbar — Lunário Poético duma Alma ainda Árabe" (2025). He is also a reciter and teacher of Portuguese and Portuguese Literature in Silves, and is expected to release his fourth book in the coming months.
Over the past year, the Algarvian poet has represented Portugal and Portuguese poetry at various international events, namely the 1st Film and Literature Festival of Tétouan, in Morocco, the 7th Cross-Border Contemporary Art Fair of Huelva, where he was part of the project "Poesía en la Frontera," and the 4th Cross-Border Literary Meeting of Aracena, in Spain, as part of the project "Letras em la Raya."
Nero's work has received critical attention. Matilde Aranha, from the official newspaper of NOVA School of Law, described him as an "author of slow-maturing style," while Chilean journalist and poet Ricardo Olave Montecinos, from the Spanish newspaper caoCultura, classified his lyrics as of "high register," highlighting a "robust" work with careful and complex language.
