After a relatively quiet start to September in mainland Portugal, a very hot air mass from North Africa will cause temperatures to soar, with maximums above 40 degrees in the country's interior. The heat should reach its peak on Thursday.
From Friday onwards, the first signs of atmospheric instability begin to appear, preparing the ground for a significant change in the weather at the beginning of next week.
On Saturday, September 5th, the return of thunderstorms to mainland Portugal is expected. Showers should return in the mid-afternoon, accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, phenomena that will be particularly likely in the most intense convective cells.
