The MEP Paulo do Nascimento Cabral, from the PSD, expressed "enormous satisfaction" with the approval, in Strasbourg, of an amendment proposed by the PSD Delegation in the European Parliament. This amendment safeguards the Outermost Regions, including the Azores and Madeira, from the extension of the application of carbon rates.
The measure is part of the revision of the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, known as CBAM. The initial objective of the proposal was to extend the application of carbon rates to more sectors, which could negatively affect the most remote regions.
