Minister highlights 80 ME investment in 3,000 equipment to prevent fires

dnoticias.pt15 September 2026 at 19:02

The Minister of Agriculture and the Sea, José Manuel Fernandes, today highlighted the ongoing 80 million euro investment for fire prevention and forest defense. This amount will be applied to the acquisition of more than 3,000 equipment, including tractors and tracked vehicles.

The official spoke in Amares, in the Braga district, during the ceremony for the delivery of seven tractors to as many municipalities. This event is part of the investment program now announced.

According to José Manuel Fernandes, the total amount of 80 million euros is divided between 50 million euros destined for intermunicipal communities, municipalities and forest producer organizations, and an additional unspecified amount in the article.

Why this matters

This 80 million euro investment represents a significant reinforcement of fire prevention resources for Portuguese municipalities, which after the major fires of recent years need more resources to defend their forests. The mayors and intermunicipal communities are the main recipients of this equipment, which aims to improve the response capacity in forest defense against fires.
