The Municipality of Tavira joins the European Heritage Days 2026 with a diverse program of activities running from September 19 to 27, inviting residents and visitors to explore different dimensions of the history, archaeology, architecture and collective memory of the municipality. The European initiative, which this year takes place between September 18 and 27 under the theme "Revive, resist, reinvent", aims to promote the appreciation, knowledge and safeguarding of cultural heritage.
The program kicks off on September 19 with the "Walks in Tavira's History", dedicated to the "Arraial Ferreira Neto", at Hotel Vila Galé Albacora, led by Ricardo Louro, from the Municipal Museum of Tavira. Also that day, there is a visit to the exhibition "Everything for the Neighborhood. The SAAL in Tavira and Building Together", at the Palácio da Galeria, followed by a trip to the SAAL 1.º de Maio Neighborhood, with guidance from João Baía Costa, from the University of Algarve, Luísa Ricardo, from the Municipal Museum, and Luciano Baptista, from the Residents' Association 1.º de Maio.
On September 23, the Pousada do Convento da Graça hosts "Dansanté – Guided Visit and Movement for Seniors", promoted by the Artificial Association, with the participation of Jaquelina Covaneiro, from the Municipal Museum of Tavira. The initiative also includes a visit to the remains of the ancient Almohad Neighborhood of Tavira, combining the discovery of heritage with active participation of seniors. On the 26th, Marco Sousa Santos leads a visit to the exhibition "Jews in Tavira. Fragments of a History", at the Islamic Nucleus of the Municipal Museum.
The days conclude on the 27th with the activity "Tavira a Pé e Devagar", a walk through the city that coincides with World Tourism Day and Cittaslow Sunday, led by Marco Sousa Santos. Entry to the Municipal Museum of Tavira will be free on September 18, 19 and 26, and all activities are free, but subject to mandatory registration due to limited capacity.
