On Saturday night, September 12, the National Palace of Sintra hosted the National Grand Final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal. The event reached this phase with 21 final contenders, three from each category, selected from a total of 147 heritage sites that were in competition.

The voting was entirely determined by the public, and among the seven winners was Lisbon's Cathedral, located in the heart of the Portuguese capital. This historical monument thus joins a restricted group of heritage sites distinguished in this competition.

The other six winners are the Castle of Leiria, the Aqueduct of Usseira in Óbidos, the Ruins of São Cucufate in Vila de Frades, the Markets of Olhão, the Tiago Cabaço Winery cellar in Estremoz, and the Garden of the Episcopal Palace in Castelo Branco.
