The 2026 edition of Festas dos Capuchos was officially opened this Friday, in Vila Viçosa. The opening ceremony took place at Largo dos Capuchos, the location where the event is held.

The mayor of Vila Viçosa, Inácio Esperança, attended the opening and highlighted the return to the municipality of Calipolenses who reside outside the region. The mayor also emphasized the reunion between family and friends as one of the main goals of the festival.

The event is designated as the "reunion party," reflecting the importance placed on gathering the community, particularly those native to Vila Viçosa who live far from the Alentejo municipality.
