The Centro Hospitalar Tondela-Viseu is expanding the scope of action of mental health support teams in the region. This expansion represents a significant reinforcement of psychological and psychiatric follow-up services available to the population of the central area of the country.
Currently, the mental health support teams operate in four municipalities: Vouzela, Oliveira de Frades, São Pedro do Sul and Castro Daire. These municipalities have been benefiting from proximity mental health services through this initiative.
The expansion plan foresees that the teams' activity will be extended to three new municipalities: Vila Nova de Paiva, Sátão and Aguiar da Beira. With this extension, more rural and smaller populations will have access to mental health care without needing to travel to urban centers.
This measure is part of a strategy to decentralize mental health care, seeking to ensure that smaller and more isolated communities have access to specialized support in the field of mental health, contributing to a more equitable coverage of the territory.
