Angolan regulator fines Chamber of Customs Brokers for illegal price fixing

Angola's Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC) applied a fine exceeding 7.2 million kwanzas (approximately 6,800 euros) to the Câmara dos Despachantes Oficiais de Angola (CDOA) for illegal price fixing. The violation involved the adoption of a table of minimum fees for customs brokerage services, approved at an extraordinary general assembly in December 2022, which the ARC considered to restrict competition by preventing free price definition by brokers. The regulator ordered the immediate revocation of the table and, despite previous notifications, the CDOA did not comply with the precautionary measure, leading to the application of compulsory monetary sanctions. The decision also obliges the CDOA to inform its members that prices must be freely defined autonomously.
