Spanish authorities are on maximum alert for September 20, after the intelligence services of the National Police and Guardia Civil detected a significant increase in social media messages calling for a new mass entry into the city of Ceuta. Ceuta is a Spanish city located in North Africa, on the border with Morocco.
The information was widely shared on social media, indicating that calls for a new mass entry attempt are growing. Ceuta was the scene of a migration crisis in May 2021, when thousands of migrants, mostly Moroccan, managed to enter the Spanish enclave during a period of tension between Madrid and Rabat.
Spanish intelligence services continuously monitor social media to identify threats to national security. The detection of these calls has led to a reinforcement of security measures at Ceuta's borders, preparing to prevent a repetition of the events of May 2021.
