The Castle of Alandroal was the venue, on September 10th, for the presentation of the fourth edition of Granfondo Serra D'Ossa, one of the reference cycling events in the Alentejo, scheduled for October 4th. The event is expected to bring together around 1700 participants, among Portuguese and foreign athletes, and along the route connects the municipalities of Alandroal, Vila Viçosa, Borba, Estremoz and Redondo.
José Daniel Sadio, Mayor of the Municipality of Estremoz, in statements to Rádio Campanário, stated that the impact of the initiative on the territory has been tremendous, highlighting the excellent union among the five municipalities. The mayor considered that none of the five municipalities, individually, has the capacity to benefit from the impact resulting from this sporting event.
The mayor of Estremoz highlighted the international dimension of the event and the number of participants, considering that the impact, year after year, has been very positive, promoting tourism in the region and showcasing the potential of the territory, both collectively and in each municipality individually. The event also serves as an action for the promotion and dissemination of Serra d'Ossa.
This fourth edition offers three routes: the Granfondo with 143.9 kilometres, the Mediofondo with 108.3 kilometres and the Minifondo with 60.8 kilometres. The organization introduced some changes to the routes while maintaining the matrix of previous editions, continuing to focus on the organizational component to improve the participants' experience.
