SINTAB accuses the Government of not presenting any concrete measure to guarantee the continuity of the Matadouro Industrial do Cachão, after the Executive's response to a question from PCP in the Assembly of the Republic about the insolvency process and the future of the infrastructure became known.
According to the union, the Government recognizes the importance of the slaughterhouse for the region and the possible impacts of its closure, but limits itself to referring responsibilities to the owning municipalities, Mirandela and Vila Flor, and to the bodies of the insolvency process. SINTAB considers the response particularly concerning because it comes just a few days after the Council of Ministers met in Bragança on September 9th, at an encounter marked by speeches about valuing the Interior.
The organization recalls that workers have maintained activity despite uncertainty about the company's future and difficulties in timely salary payments. The union states that, for months, the owning municipalities referred to a recovery plan that was never presented to them. Given the absence of responses, SINTAB considers that the different entities are transferring responsibilities among themselves.
SINTAB now demands that the Municipal Chambers of Mirandela and Vila Flor and the Government present concrete solutions to ensure the continuity of the infrastructure, arguing that an essential infrastructure for livestock production, employment and the Trás-os-Montes economy is at stake.
