Two military police officers from the 9th BPM (Rocha Miranda) became defendants for the death of doctor Andréa Marins Dias, shot during a police operation in Cascadura, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The crime occurred on March 15 of this year, when the officers confused the victim's vehicle with a suspect car.
The indictment for qualified homicide was filed by the Specialized Group for Public Security Action of the Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor's Office (GAESP/MPRJ) against Staff Sergeant José Jorge Ferreira Dias and Second Sergeant Raphael Gomes Damasceno. The accusation was accepted by the 2nd Criminal Court of the Capital.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the officers were searching for vehicles suspected of involvement in robberies when they began pursuing a silver Toyota Corolla Cross. During the pursuit, they lost sight of the suspect vehicle and ended up shooting the doctor, who was driving a similar car in the same area.
