Chaos and calm in the same place!

Jornal Opinião Pública (Vila Nova de Famalicão)11 September 2026 at 11:08

Vitor Pereira's opinion article, a graduate in Public Management, compares international chaos with the apparent political calm in Portugal. The publication The Economist, in "The World Ahead 2026," depicts an unstable world marked by wars, the return of protectionism, economic transformation through Artificial Intelligence, and the power struggle between the United States and China. Europe has realized, perhaps belatedly, the need to resume domestic production and ensure its own security.

The author criticizes that while in Portugal the discussion is about who politically brings down whom, Chega appears focused on a battle to weaken and replace the PSD. Pereira questions whether the party agenda is diverting attention from the country's true agenda, arguing that this internal dispute does not appear on the covers of international publications that define the future.

According to the article, Minho has strategic assets to leverage European industrial relocation trends: industry, exporting companies, universities, technology centers, talent, and proximity to Galicia. The Braga District Political Committee, led by Carlos Eduardo Reis, presented at the PSD National Congress in Anadia a proposal for the creation of a Metropolitan Area of Minho, covering Braga, Guimarães, Famalicão, Barcelos, and Viana do Castelo.

The author argues that the proposal aims to give political strength to an already existing economic reality, through joint coordination of mobility, housing, investment, and innovation. He concludes that, given international uncertainty, serenity, vision, and strategic courage are needed to decide what kind of country Portugal wants to be over the next decade, rather than simply discussing who wins the next political battle.

The Federal Police revealed that senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) was not just a "third party" in the negotiations for the financing of the Dark Horse film, which portrays the political trajectory of Jair Bolsonaro, but rather a "direct interlocutor" of banker Daniel Vorcaro. According to a PF report attached to the Master case, Flavio appears as a direct interlocutor of Vorcaro in negotiations related to the financing of the production, including payment collections, in-person meetings and monitoring of the filming. The PF request and the PGR opinion led minister André Mendonça, of the STF, to open a specific inquiry to investigate Flavio.
