Press 1, press 2, give up… Sometimes I just want to talk to a person.

SAPO Notícias11 September 2026 at 09:15

The article describes the growing frustration of consumers with automated customer service systems. The author recounts that he needed to contact a company to resolve a simple problem that, if explained to a real person, would probably only take two minutes.

When he called, the machine asked him to briefly explain the reason for the contact. The author tried to explain the situation, but the system responded that it didn't understand. He repeated the explanation, but was routed to a completely different subject than what he needed.

Faced with this impasse, the author decided to go back in the menu and try another option, suggesting that the process continues to be time-consuming and frustrating. The article's title, "Press 1, press 2, give up… Sometimes I just want to talk to a person," synthesizes the central complaint: the impossibility of speaking directly with a human without going through automated menus that often don't resolve customers' problems.
