Just a few hours after Marius Borg Høiby accompanied the Norwegian royal family at King Harald V's funeral, his name was back in the news. The Borgarting Court of Appeal admitted the appeal filed by his defense, which makes it obligatory to hold a new trial regarding the convictions for two rapes and abuse against one of his ex-partners that the eldest son of Queen Mette-Marit had decided to appeal.
Marius Borg Høiby is the eldest child of Queen Mette-Marit of Norway and the late King Harald V, born from a previous relationship of the queen. The court has determined that the case must be reviewed, which represents a turn in the legal proceedings that had already concluded with a conviction.
This new legal development occurs at a particularly sensitive time for the royal family, which has just gone through mourning for the death of Harald V, who passed away at age 87 on March 13 after a long reign. Høiby participated in the funeral ceremonies alongside his siblings and his mother, the current queen.
