The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed nine districts under yellow warning due to heat, covering several municipalities in the centre and south of the country. The yellow warning is due to the persistence of high maximum temperature values felt in these regions.
The arrival of heat puts several municipalities at maximum fire danger. In the Santarém region, the municipalities of Sardoal and Mação are at very high risk. In the Portalegre region, Gavião, Nisa, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide and Marvão face maximum fire danger.
In the Algarve region, the municipalities of Monchique and Portimão were also identified as being at maximum fire danger. IPMA alerts that this fire danger situation will continue until the end of next week, prolonging the period of high risk for these regions.
