Municipal Security Council meets for the first time in Viana do Alentejo

The Municipal Security Council of Viana do Alentejo met for the first time on September 9, in the hall of the Parish Council of Viana do Alentejo, in a session marked by the inauguration of its members. The meeting was chaired by the mayor, Luís Metrogos, and marked the beginning of the work of this consultative body at the municipal level, created with the objective of monitoring and analyzing issues related to the safety of the population, contributing to the prevention of crime and social exclusion.

This Council brings together representatives from various entities operating in the territory, including security forces, firefighters, educational institutions, Social Security, parish councils, trade unions, Private Institutions of Social Solidarity and health institutions. During the first meeting, the two secretaries of the Council were appointed: Bruno Lagarto, Municipal Civil Protection Coordinator, and João Antunes, president of the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People of Viana do Alentejo.

Among the powers of this body are the issuance and approval of opinions, the analysis of information and data related to domestic violence, as well as the presentation of proposals and actions aimed at the prevention and promotion of community safety. One of the main topics under discussion was the draft regulation for the establishment of the Municipal Security Council, with council members having 15 days to submit contributions and express their views on the document, before it is submitted to the Municipal Council and subsequently to the Municipal Assembly.
