The Spanish chain Mercadona inaugurated on October 10 its first store in Vila Real, marking its entry into a new Portuguese district and now having 76 supermarkets in Portugal. The new store is located at Rua das Camélias, number 2, and represented an investment of more than 9.5 million euros.
The opening was attended by the Mayor of Vila Real, Alexandre Favaios, and by the President of the Vila Real Parish Council, José Maria Magalhães, who visited the facilities accompanied by their respective executives. Alexandre Favaios thanked the company for its trust in the municipality, highlighting the job creation, the strengthening of the commercial offering and the contribution of the investment to the local economy.
The supermarket has a sales area of 1,900 square meters, with sections for butcher, fishmonger, deli, pastry, bakery, fruit and vegetables, perfumery, household and pet products, as well as a wine cellar. The "Ready to Eat" space operates on a self-service basis, allowing customers to take the meals or consume them inside the establishment.
The store has a team of 74 workers, all with permanent contracts from day one. The parking area has 180 spaces, two of which are designated for charging electric vehicles, integrating the company's commitment to electric mobility. For Sofia Cardoso, Director of External Relations for Mercadona's Northern Zone, this opening represents a new stage in the chain's expansion and bringing the chain closer to Vila Real consumers.
