A cargo plane serving Amazon veered off track in Miami last Saturday, the 6th, while exceeding the runway limits during landing. The aircraft, a Boeing 767 arriving from Puerto Rico, collided with several vehicles, causing five deaths. The two pilots survived with minor injuries.

One of the pilots reportedly said "my career is over" moments after the accident. The phrase was attributed to one of the crew members by accounts gathered at the scene, although it is not possible to identify which of the two uttered it. A witness watching from a nearby building described one of the pilots trembling, with injuries to his forehead and hand. The same crew member asked an airport employee to borrow a phone to call his wife and tell her he was okay.

The pilots have been identified as Felipe Silva Molina, 37, and Joseph Carroll, 55. Carroll serves as captain, while Molina is first officer. The runway excursion had consequences for airport operations, with hundreds of flights cancelled or delayed.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the veering off. Among the elements mentioned are the storms affecting Miami and the aircraft's contact with the runway. Correio da Manhã also reports that air traffic controllers did not alter the approach trajectory to allow for a landing into the wind, although the potential contribution of this element to the accident remains subject to determination by the authorities.
