A fire broke out, this Wednesday afternoon, in a nursing home in Darque, Viana do Castelo, forcing the evacuation of the 75 elderly people living there. The fire started during the afternoon and caused significant damage to the building's structure.
The elderly were taken to a nearby elementary school, where they received assistance. Local authorities and civil protection services quickly mobilized to ensure the residents were accommodated.
The causes of the fire are still being investigated by the competent authorities. So far, no injuries have been reported among the evacuated elderly, although the material damage to the nursing home is considerable.
