The Guardia Civil recommended reinforcing maritime surveillance in Ceuta after the Supreme Court ruling that confirmed the impossibility of immediately returning people who arrive by sea to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The General Directorate of the Guardia Civil proposed reinforcing the maritime barrier to prevent people from entering by swimming in these cities.
The ruling, although formally dated June 29, was published on July 8 on the website of the General Council of the Judiciary. On the same day, a service note was issued proposing the reinforcement of the Provincial Maritime Service of Ceuta.
The recommendation to reinforce surveillance came just three days after the Supreme Court upheld in its ruling the impossibility of immediately returning migrants who arrived in the autonomous cities by sea.
