PSD praises "robust public accounts", PS accuses Government of incompetence

Correio da Manhã9 September 2026 at 17:03

PSD praised Portugal's "robust public accounts", stating that the country currently has "a more dynamic economy and more employment". This position arises in the context of a political debate about the national economic situation.

In the opposite direction, PS accused the Government of incompetence in economic management. The socialists maintained their insistence on lowering VAT on fuels as a necessary measure to help Portuguese families.

The contrast between the two positions illustrates the division between the two main Portuguese parties on the best way to guide the country's economic policy. While PSD highlights the positive results of public accounts, PS pointed out that there are measures that could be implemented to directly support consumers.

Chega requests urgent parliamentary hearing of the national director of the PJ

The Chega party will request an urgent parliamentary hearing of the national director of the Judicial Police (PJ), Luís Neves, to clarify the information transmitted to the minister of Justice about the destruction of chemicals seized in operation Pacoba. André Ventura accused minister Rita Alarcão Júdice of having lied to parliament, suggesting she tried to cover up for Luís Neves, although the minister stated that "no one lied" and that she requested additional clarification from the current national director of the PJ, Carlos Cabreiro. Ventura considered that either the PJ is hiding information from the Government and Parliament, or the minister is lying to protect the minister of Internal Administration, considering both scenarios particularly serious.
